Featured Speaker: Wayne and Ann Veazey Davis

Program Title: “Sam Davis”

Ann traces her Granville County roots to The Veazey Ridge (Butner) in Granville County from 1750. Wayne traces his Davis roots to adjacent Mecklenburg County, Virginia, from 1795. The program for the evening will be about Sam Davis. They first heard of Wayne’s cousin, Sam Davis, in 1975, while visiting Wayne's great-aunt in Danville, Virginia. It was 1981 before they were able to locate Sam and prove Wayne's relationship as a first cousin, 4 times removed. The story of the bravery, loyalty and dedication of Sam Davis is one that needs to be told. They have been sharing what they have learned about Sam to historical and SCV groups for the past 25 years. Their information has been converted to a Power Point presentation in recent years.

Members and visitors are encouraged to attend what promises to be a most interesting program in the conference room at Thornton Library in Oxford at 6:30 PM on June 1, 2006
